Scope and Content Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh, from the south Corstorphine Old Parish Church dates from the early 15th century, and became a collegiate church in 1429, founded by Sir John Forrester. It stands, surrounded by its churchyard, in Kirk Loan, at the historic centre of the old village of Corstorphine. The chancel, the oldest part of the church, was built in 1404. The nave and the squat west tower, with its stone spire, date from 1444. The south transept is unusual, being placed at the west end of the nave and not, as normal, at the east end. The church, including the slabbed roof, is built of stone. This style of building was customary in Scotland in the 15th century when stone was plentiful and timber scarce.
