Scope and Content Detail of drawing-room chimneypiece in Ballure House, Argyll and Bute Ballure is thought to have been built as a dower house, which is a house for a widow, by a MacDonald of Largie. The villa, dating to the early 19th century, originally consisted of an L-plan main block and a lower service wing to the north. This chimneypiece is made of timber, the jambs decorated with mouldings. The lintel, which stretches from jamb to jamb, has moulded circular ornaments in the corners. The mouldings and ornaments are identical to the architraves around the doors. The interior of the house is divided into three sections. The stair is in the central division with the main rooms in the divisions on either side. The drawing room is on the ground floor on one side of the stair with the dining room on the other.
