Scope and Content View of rear elevation of Cara House, Argyll and Bute Cara House was built around 1733 as the home of the lessee of the island of Cara, who rented Cara from its owners, the MacDonalds of Largie. The house is two-storeyed with an attic and is built of local, lime-mortared rubble masonry. The house is a rectangular block with a lower extension to the rear which probably dates from the early 19th century. It was probably intended for use as a kitchen and does contain a wide kitchen fireplace. The extension was later converted for use as a byre or stable. It is said that until the kitchen was built in the 19th century, a nearby chapel was used as a kitchen in the 18th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
