Scope and Content View of north-west chamber on second floor of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. This chamber is on the second floor of the restored tower-house. It has roughly plastered walls and a joisted ceiling, which means that the horizontal timbers which support the floorboards above are visible. The ceiling is supported on runner beams. The runner beams are supported on the stones projecting from the wall, or corbels. The stone fireplace has a roll-and-hollow moulded surround. At the top of the stairs, to the right, is a wrought-iron balustrade by Thomas Hadden. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
