Scope and Content View of south-east chamber on third floor of south wing of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. This chamber, in the original tower, was restored by Lorimer (1864-1929) in 1911-12. It is fully lined with panelling and has a richly decorated plastered ceiling. The door leads to the principal stair. Below the window (right) is a pistol-loop. Robert Lorimer was born and trained in Edinburgh, and by 1905 he was famous for his restoration work. He worked with a carefully selected group of craftsmen who produced work of outstanding quality. Lorimer was knighted in 1911. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
