Scope and Content First-floor plan of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. On the left is the original tower-house which has the great hall, a boudoir, a staircase and an angle-tower. To the right is the north range added by Lorimer (1864-1929) which was designed as a service wing with a pantry and bedrooms for the staff. At the bottom left is the south range added by Lorimer which has an open-air sitting room, or loggia, a library, a bathroom and a bedroom for the valet. The area between the ranges is a small square sheltered courtyard. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
