Scope and Content View of interior of loggia of Dunderave Castle from south, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. The loggia, or gallery, is in the south range designed by Lorimer (1864-1929). Situated on the ground floor above a service basement, it links the original tower-house with the library and has walls built of local rubble. Lorimer worked with a carefully selected group of craftsmen who produced work of outstanding quality. The roof of the loggia, for example, is a replica of a traditional braced roof with ashlar posts triangulated at the wall-head. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
