Scope and Content View of Duntrune Castle from the south, Argyll and Bute Duntrune Castle consists of a three-storeyed L-plan tower and some modern ranges along the internal faces of the irregular-shaped courtyard. The tower-house dates to 1600 and was restored after 1796 and again between 1954 and 1957. The tower-house has walls of random rubble masonry, much of it heavily rendered, or plastered. The main block and wing to the left have crowstepped gables and the roofs are steeply pitched and slated. The upper floors have flat-headed dormer windows. Almost all the window openings have been changed during restoration. On the corner of the ground floor, above the projecting crag, is the mouth of a garderobe chute, now blocked, which would have been used to remove the sewage from the house.
