Scope and Content Thatched Cottage at Nether Liberton, Edinburgh Liberton, consisting of the four separate communities of northether Liberton, Over Liberton, Kirk Liberton and Liberton Dams, was once a country village surrounded by unspoiled countryside on the south side of Edinburgh, on the roads to Lasswade and Peebles. This thatched cottage, possibly dating from the 17th century, was the miller's house, and stood close to the village mill on the Braid Burn. The house had entrances on two levels, with the upper level having an access by wooden steps from the road. The last miller to live and work at Nether Liberton was Andrew Dick, who lived in the cottage c.1840. The village brewery, which was in full working order and a successful business concern in 1789, stood a little to the north of the cottage. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
