Scope and Content Drawings showing the longitudinal and transverse sections of Liberton Tower, Liberton Drive, Liberton, Edinburgh Liberton Tower, a late medieval tower-house, stands perched on a ridge to the west of Liberton. The tower, built in the 15th century by the Dalmahoy family, has a splendid uninterrupted view north over the city of Edinburgh to the Firth of Forth. The tower is four-storeyed, although the wooden floors that made two storeys within each space have now gone. The roof rests on a pointed tunnel-vault below which were the residential storeys, and under these is a barrel-vaulted basement for storage. The entrance on the first floor opened into the main room of the tower. It had a fireplace in the long south wall, a garderobe (a medieval privy which, in this case, had a close-fitting door), and an aumbry or cupboard in the north-east corner.
