Scope and Content No 1 Greenhill Gardens, Morningside, Edinburgh The area of Greenhill Gardens, a narrow tree-lined street running from Bruntsfield Terrace to Chamberlain Road, was first feued for building in 1840. It was the old road through the Greenhill estate, and retains much of the secluded charm of bygone days. No 1, one half of a double villa, has a simple doorpiece, and a large double bay window. The house, built c.1849, stands behind a secluded walled garden, on the west side of the street near to the corner of Bruntsfield Terrace. No 1 stood near the site of the 17th-century mansion house of the Greenhill estate, Greenhill House, one of several great houses, each with its own rural estate or farmlands, that encircled the old village of Morningside. The house was demolished in 1884. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
