Scope and Content Gravestone commemorating Alison and Alexander Meek, North Berwick churchyard, East Lothian This gravestone commemorates Alison and Alexander Meek, children of James Meek, a local tenant farmer, who died in 1714 and 1719 respectively. At the top of the stone, the winged cherub symbolises the soul's ascent to heaven. Beneath, a cornucopia, the Horn of Plenty, symbolises Paradise, and is a symbol often used on gravestones throughout the Lothians. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art.
