Scope and Content Poplar Bank and the former Dairy, Nos 58 and 60 The Causeway, Duddingston, Edinburgh The Causeway, Duddingston's main street, is a narrow lane which runs from the gates of the church the length of the village. It has a number of 18th- and 19th-century houses, as well as the village's only public house, the 18th-century Sheep Heid Inn. Poplar Bank, built c.1780, stands on the north side of the lane opposite the Sheep Heid Inn. The house, with a pilastered doorpiece in the rubble street-front, is the most village-like building in this tiny suburb. Poplar Bank was the old farmhouse of the village, and the adjoining Dairy delivered milk from the farm to Edinburgh. At the rear of the house are the former 18th-century byres and outhouses, now restored and used as studios and workshops. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
