Scope and Content Reverse face, gravestone commemorating William Minne and his wife, Dunbar churchyard, East Lothian This gravestone commemorates William Minne, who died in 1761 aged 76. The inscription, indistinct in places, records that his wife died in 1770. Within the pediment of the gravestone is a pair of kneeling angels, heralding the coming of the Resurrection with their trumpets. Beneath, the skull, bones and hourglass, signify death and human mortality. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art.
