Scope and Content Gravestone commemorating Robert Ranken, Prestonkirk churchyard, East Lothian This gravestone commemorates Robert Ranken, a merchant and smallholder, who died aged 71 in 1729. A pair of scales symbolises Robert's mercantile profession. Emblems of death, suspended on ribbons, border the inscription panel, including a pair of crossed spades, symbolising the tools of the sexton who dug graves.
