Scope and Content View of angle-turrets on south-east gable wall of Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. This is the south-east gable wall of the 16th-century tower. There is an angle-turret on each side. These turrets are conical-roofed and are supported on four courses of continuous corbelling, projecting from the corners of the wall. The turrets open into the top-floor chamber. Lorimer (1864-1929) restored the roof of the tower, including the angle-turrets, using stone slabs. The gables are crowstepped. To the left is a pedimented dormer window which Lorimer added to the tower. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
