Scope and Content View of chamber on fourth floor of south-east wing in Dunderave Castle, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. The south-east wing of the 16th-century tower has a single rectangular room on each floor. This is the fourth-floor chamber, lined with wooden panelling, which was restored in 1912 by Lorimer (1864-1929). The plaster ceiling is decorated with roundels. The studded door leads directly to the principal stair and the chamber is lit by three windows. The fireplace has a round-arrised surround (that is, a rounded edge where the inner and outer parts of the fireplace meet). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
