Scope and Content The courtyard, St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Falcon Avenue, Morningside, Edinburgh St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, a rather austere building in an Italianate style, was designed by the Edinburgh architect, Sir Robert Lorimer in 1906. The church was the brainchild of Canon John Gray, who became its first parish priest, 1907-34. The nave (right), the priest's house and the hall (left) form three sides of a pleasant cloistered open entrance court, planted with cherry trees and flowering shrubs. The sculpture on the wall of the nave is of The Annunciation. In 1909 St Peter's Roman Catholic Primary School opened in Falcon Gardens, across the road from the church, with Canon John Gray as school manager. The management of the school was transferred from the Church to the local education authority in 1919. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
