Scope and Content Shipbreaking yard, Inverkeithing, Fife Shipbreaking developed here after the First World War when surplus naval vessels became available from nearby Rosyth. The breakers were Cox and Danks, who achieved fame by salving many of the ships of the former German High Seas fleet. This view shows the yard from the north west. The tanker on the left is being cut up, and on the right a small coaster is being loaded with scrap, probably for the Continent. The railway in the foreground served the yard and Caldwell's paper mill. Apart from vessels from the German fleet, and from the Royal Navy, many merchant vessels have been broken up here. This is now the only shipbreaking yard of any size in Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
