Scope and Content Distant view of Dunderave Castle from the west, Argyll and Bute Dunderave Castle, dating to the late 16th century, was a four-storeyed L-plan tower. Occupied until the early 19th century, it then became a roofless shell. In 1911-12 it was restored and extended by Sir Robert Lorimer for Sir Andrew northoble of Ardkinglas. The castle stands on Dunderave Point, a low promontory on the western shore of Loch Fyne. The original building was erected by John MacNaughton or his father, Sir Alexander. Sir Robert Lorimer (1864-1929) restored the castle for Sir Andrew Noble of Ardkinglas. He had already built Ardkinglas House for the Noble family. The castle was inhabited by members of the Noble family until 1950. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
