Scope and Content View from south-west of Park Circus, Glasgow Park Circus was designed in 1855, and built in 1857-8 to designs by Charles Wilson (1810-63). It forms the centre of his design for the Park area of the town, and is surrounded by Park Terrace (built 1855) and Park Quadrant (built 1855-8). This photograph shows Park Circus from the south-west. The sweeping terrace continues to form a full circle of elegant Classical houses. Each house is reached by a stair over the basement, with cast iron railings. They also have finely carved pediments. This area was originally to be the site for the relocation of the University, but when plans were abandoned the area was re-designed as a residential area. These elegant houses with their rich interiors were designed to appear as one large 'palace'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
