Scope and Content Detail of Venetian window above porch at Turnalt House, Argyll and Bute Turnalt House was probably built as a small gentleman's residence about 1800. It belonged to the Barbreck estate of General John Campbell and was probably built by his brother, Archibald. It is a classical mansion house with flanking pavilions. This Venetian window is in the slightly advanced centrepiece of the main front of the house. Venetian windows have three openings, the central one arched, and wider, than the others. The top of this window, or tympanum, is blocked externally. Above the Venetian window is a pediment. The moulded stone band which defines the base of the pediment is carried round the head of the arched window. Below the window is the roof of the porch, added in the early 19th century.
