Scope and Content View of Turnalt House from the south-east, Argyll and Bute Turnalt House was probably built as a small gentleman's residence about 1800. It belonged to the Barbreck estate of General John Campbell and was probably built by his brother, Archibald. It is a classical mansion house with flanking pavilions. The house is symmetrical with a two-storeyed main block linked to single-storeyed pavilions by the lower flanking wings. The south-west front is of three bays with a slightly advanced pedimented centrepiece. The porch probably dates to the early 19th century and is an addition. The dormer windows and the slab cappings of the chimney-stacks are also later additions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
