Scope and Content View of south front of Stable House, Minard Castle, Argyll and Bute In 1784 Archibald Campbell (1693-1790) had a plain Georgian house, known as Knockbuy, built. In 1842, the estate was sold to H W Askew. He employed the architect, John Thomas Rochead (1814-78), to alter and extend the house, renaming it Minard Castle. There is a court of offices enclosing a cobbled courtyard 250m north of Minard Castle. The early 19th-century buildings served as coach-house, stables and granary for the mansion. This is the south front of the quadrangle, now known as Stable House. There is a segmental-arched pend, or passage, leading through the south front to the inner courtyard to forestairs on the north range of the quadrangle. The window bays are arcaded on the ground floor. The building has been converted to domestic use. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
