Scope and Content View of Taynish House from the south-west, Argyll and Bute Taynish was the seat of the Macnortheill family and the core of the existing Taynish House is a laird's house, probably built in the first half of the 18th century. In 1780 the estate was acquired by Sir Archibald Campbell and the house was extended. At the far right of the rear elevation is the bow which was added onto the main front of the original house after 1780. Next to that bow is a circular stair-tower of late 18th-century type, which is higher than the main wing of the house. Attached to the tower is a small bow-ended addition dating to the 1920s. The other, to the left, also dates to the same period. The rectangular building to the left partly dates to the early 19th century and is the rear of another bow.
