Scope and Content View of Taynish House from the north-east, Argyll and Bute Taynish was the seat of the Macnortheill family and the core of the existing Taynish House is a laird's house, probably built in the first half of the 18th century. In 1780 the estate was acquired by Sir Archibald Campbell and the house was extended. The bow to the left was added to the original house after 1780 for Sir Archibald Campbell. To the right is an additional, slightly wider, bow which was added in the early 19th century to accommodate the kitchen. Both bows have half-cone slated roofs. The kitchen has been modernised, but the position of a large fireplace can still be seen in one of its walls. The interior of the house was altered due to a fire in 1955 and no evidence remains of 18th-century arrangements. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
