Scope and Content View of the great barn at Taynish Farm from the north-east, Argyll and Bute Taynish was the seat of the Macnortheill family from the 15th to the 18th century. In 1780 the estate was acquired by Sir Archibald Campbell of Inverneill and his descendants owned it until 1929. The north-east front of the barn is five-bayed and the central bay is advanced. The loading door is round-headed and rises almost to roof level, to allow carts to enter the building for loading and unloading. Above the door are the dovecot flight-holes. Two of the large rectangular windows are glazed but the others have timber louvres. The door also has timber louvres. The roof is hipped and slated. However, much of it collapsed in 1984, after this photograph was taken. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
