Scope and Content View of Kilmory Castle from the north-west, Argyll and Bute In 1816, Kilmory Castle, which had 18th-century origins, consisted of a rectangular house with a central wing. This was incorporated into a Tudor Gothic mansion built for Sir John Powlett Orde between 1828 and 1836, which was again extended in 1860-78. To the right is the existing range which was remodelled by the architect Joseph Gordon Davis between 1828 and 1836. This symmetrical three-storeyed block has five bays and is gabled at the centre and ends. At ground level is a gabled porch. Between the original wing (right) and the new wing (left) is a three-storeyed octagonal tower with corbelled battlements. The projecting narrow bands of stone around the tower are string-courses. There is a similar, but square, tower to the far left. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
