Scope and Content View of bridge on driveway at Kilmory Castle from the east, Argyll and Bute In 1816, Kilmory Castle, which had 18th-century origins, consisted of a rectangular house with a central wing. This was incorporated into a Tudor Gothic mansion built for Sir John Powlett Orde between 1828 and 1836, which was again extended in 1860-78. To the right is a high wall which goes along the side of the driveway to the north of the house. The driveway links the house to the court of offices, or home farm. The driveway is spanned by two archways and this bridge, at first-floor level. In its present form the driveway probably dates to 1860-78. In 1980-2, Argyll and Bute District Council, owner of the castle since 1974, built an office block to the right. It is linked to the castle by the bridge which now has a glazed canopy.
