Scope and Content View of court of offices at Castle Toward from the south-west, Argyll and Bute The original Castle Toward was erected in 1820 for Kirkman Finlay. The architect was David Hamilton (1768-1843) who designed it in a Gothic castellated style. In 1920-4 the house was altered and extended in the same style by Francis Deas (1862-1951). Hamilton designed the court of offices in the same Gothic castellated style as the house. The entrance to the court of offices is through the four-centred archway in the square battlemented tower, which is turreted at the corners. Some windows have hood-moulds and some have a plain surround. Some of the windows are mullioned - they are divided into two or three, by vertical bars of stone. The upper window, to the left, is arched, with Perpendicular-style tracery. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
