Scope and Content View of Taynish House from the south-east, Argyll and Bute Taynish was the seat of the Macnortheill family and the core of the existing Taynish House is a laird's house, probably built in the first half of the 18th century. In 1780 the estate was acquired by Sir Archibald Campbell and the house was extended. The original house probably consists of the central three-bayed, two-storeyed rectangular block, with the bows at either end being added later. The three small central windows are original but the doors were probably inserted in the late 18th century. Due to the addition of the bows for Sir Archibald after 1780, some 17th-century work may have been destroyed. John Leyden said in 1800 Taynish had 'lost all its ancient appendages by the present possessor preferring convenience to barbarous grandeur'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
