Scope and Content Lighthouse workshops, Granton, Edinburgh These workshops were built for the Northern Lighthouse Board to maintain lighthouse machinery, which was shipped out of Granton Harbour to lighthouses all over Scotland and the Isle of Man. A lantern was provided for trials of lighthouse lenses. This view shows the frontage of the workshops from the north west, with the trial lantern in the centre, with the Board's typical triangular panes. Optical apparatus was supplied to the Board by outside contractors, and trial assembly before erection on site was a wise precaution. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
