Scope and Content Broadford Works of linen manufacturers Messrs Richards, Aberdeen Broadford Works was one of the few textile factories to survive the economic crisis of the 1840s and 1850s when Aberdeen's textile industry collapsed. Aberdeen, Maberly Street, Broadford Works / Industrial / Textiles; Linen; Jute / Mill; Works / DIGITAL IMAGES An economic crisis during the 1840s and 1850s slowed Aberdeen's population growth and caused the collapse of the local textile industry. It was replaced by newer industries in 1860s, and once again the population grew rapidly. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
