Scope and Content Gravestone of A H and I G, Uphall churchyard, West Lothian This stone bears no inscription other than the initials and the date. The weaver's shuttle refers to a quotation in the Book of Job (7:6): 'My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope'. The reference emphasises human mortality, affirmed by the 'MEMENTO MORI' ('Remember You Must Die') inscription. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art.
