Scope and Content St Magdalene Distillery, Linlithgow, West Lothian This distillery was founded c1798, and developed over the next century by A and J Dawson. It was bought in 1912 by The Distillers' Co Ltd, who added a drum maltings at the east end of the site. It was closed in 1983, and sold for housing. This view shows the street frontage of the main production range, with the drum maltings added in the 1920s on the left end, with its cast iron water tank and kiln. The maltings closed in 1968, but the equipment survived until the distillery closed. This range was the first part to be converted into housing. The kiln roof has been retained as a decorative feature. New houses have been built to the rear, and to the east. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
