Scope and Content Oban Station, Oban, Argyll This station was opened in 1880 as the terminus of the Callander and Oban Railway, built in stages since the 1960s. It was steel-framed and timber clad, with a ridge and furrow glazed roof similar to, but on a smaller scale than, Glasgow Central Station. This view shows the interior of the station, illustrating the construction of the roof . Note the row of luggage trolleys, vastly in excess of need by that time, and the train of oil tank wagons for locomotive and ferry fuel. This station was demolished c1990, and replaced by a shopping centre. A much smaller station building was built on the seaward side. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
