Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 554065

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Old Thistle Inn, Westruther, Berwickshire This building appears to have been a coaching inn, on a road linking the main Edinburgh-Jedburgh road to the coast at Eyemouth, via Duns. It was probably extended in the early 19th century. This view shows the coach-house at the west end of the inn. This probably housed a coach used for local services, perhaps to Duns. the nearest place of any size. Westruther is now a tiny village, and the inn serves mainly local users. The survival of a coach house adjoining an inn is comparatively rare. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
