Scope and Content Innellan Pier, Argyll Innellan pier was built in 1850 to serve a growing marine villa development, and was extended in 1900 to take larger vessels. Both versions were timber-piled in the normal Clyde fashion. This view shows the pier from the north west, with its combined waiting room and signal tower at the end of the 1900 extension. The pier closed to normal traffic in 1972, but was briefly reopened in 1974 to take workers to the Ardyne oil platform construction yard. It was still in good condition in 1979, but soon after was badly damaged by fire. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
