Scope and Content Blairmore Pier, Argyll Blairmore Pier was built in 1855 to serve a growing settlement of marine villas. It was served by steamers to the Holy Loch piers, and also by those on services to Lochgoilhead and Arrochar. This view shows the timber-piled pier, typical of the Clyde, with a small timber waiting room at its head. The other small structure on the pierhead was used to signal to approaching steamers, if more than one, which should berth first. Blairmore pier closed in 1973, but had been repaired shortly before its closure, so was still in good condition in 1979. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
