Scope and Content Kilncraigs Mill, Alloa, Clackmannanshire This large group of mills was developed from the mid 19th century by Patons and Baldwins, eventually specialising in spinning and doubling knitting wools. The company was Alloa's largest employer for many years. This view shows the oldest mill surviving in the 1970s, which dated back to the 1860s. The elevation seen here was originally concealed by buildings on the cleared ground seen in front of the building. The complex began running down in the late 1960s, with older buildings being demolished. In 2000 it was announced that the mills were closing completely. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
