Scope and Content Dalmarnock Power Station, Glasgow This power station was established in 1914 by Glasgow Corporation to supply electricity to the south east of the city, and used Clyde water for cooling. It was the first Glasgow station to use turbo-generators from the start. This view shows the works from the south, with the turbine halls to the front and the boiler houses to the rear, served by the tall concrete chimney. The works developed over a long period. Note the cooling water intakes on the waterfront. This was the last of Glasgow Corporation's electricity generating stations to continue in use, long outlasting the pioneering stations at Waterloo Street, Port Dundas, and Eglinton Toll. It was completely demolished in 1979. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
