Scope and Content St Mungo Halls, Ballater Street, Glasgow These halls were built by the United Co-operative Baking Society to house meetings of their members, and social events and concerts. Such halls were common features of co-operative society premises, but these were larger and finer than most. This view shows a range of ovens in the kitchens of the halls. There were five ovens in the range, and they were probably electrically heated. There were also hot-plates on top. For large functions the kitchens in the halls could be called on to supply food for several hundred guests. The International Co-operative Congress, held in Glasgow in 1913, used these halls, and was one of the largest gatherings held there. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
