Scope and Content Gravestone of William Drover (east face), Lasswade Churchyard, Midlothian This gravestone commemorates the family of William Drover, a blacksmith. The hammer symbolises William's trade as a blacksmith. The royal crown is a symbol of the Incorporation of Hammermen, craftsmen whose work involved the use of hammer on metal and were granted the use of the symbol on their coats of arms. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art.
