Scope and Content Gravestone of Peter Ker and Isobel Young, Abercorn Churchyard, West Lothian This gravestone commemorates Peter Ker, who died in 1795 aged 79, his wife Isobel and three of their children. The winged cherub symbolises the soul's ascent to heaven. Beneath the finely carved foliage are crossbones, a metaphor for human mortality. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art.
