Scope and Content Former byre, Juniper Green, Edinburgh Juniper Green, lying between Colinton and Currie, stands in the middle of what was once the Currie Muir. The village, first mentioned in records in 1707, developed into a sizeable community around the mills on the Water of Leith in the 19th century. This low pantile-roofed cottage, one of the oldest buildings in the village, dates from the early 18th century. It stands at the entrance to Bloomiehall Park, and was originally built as a byre for nearby Bloomiehall farm. It is now a private house. The cottage was put up for sale in 1978, described as a 'former royal residence', a reference to the belief that Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Prince Charles Edward Stewart or Bonnie Prince Charlie) had slept there on his way to Edinburgh with his troops before the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745.
