Scope and Content Laverockdale Lodge House, Dreghorn Loan, Colinton, Edinburgh Dreghorn Loan, until 1916 known simply as 'The Loan', runs directly south from Colinton village. In 1709 it was recorded as part of the common 'loan' or lane that gave the estate of Colinton access to its common grazing ground in the Pentland Hills. This two-storeyed Lodge House, with its steep roof, crowstepped gables and pedimented semi-dormer windows, was designed in a 17th-century Scottish style by the architect, Robert Lorimer, 1912-14 as a lodge for Laverockdale House. Within the extensive walled garden is a large 'Dutch barn', a much older building than Laverockdale House, which is thought to have been one of several lodges in the area once used by hunting parties in the Pentland Hills.
