Scope and Content Cavalry Barracks, Redford Barracks, Colinton Road, Colinton, Edinburgh Redford Barracks, the largest 20th-century display of military architecture in Scotland, were built by the Director of Barrack Construction, Harry Measures, in 1909-15. They lie to the east of Colinton village, on the south side of Colinton Road. The three-storeyed Cavalry barracks, originally built to house a Cavalry regiment, faces north across the huge parade-ground to Colinton Road. The 91m frontage has a tall domed clock-tower, with recessed balconies, in the centre. The Cavalry barracks is now designated as the Edinburgh Training Centre and is used by regular and Territorial Army units on training courses in Scotland. It also houses the majority of the performers in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo each year in August. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
