Scope and Content Infantry Barracks, Redford Barracks, Colinton Road, Colinton, Edinburgh Redford Barracks, the largest 20th-century display of military architecture in Scotland, were built by the Director of Barrack Construction, Harry Measures, in 1909-15. They lie to the east of Colinton village, on the south side of Colinton Road. The huge four-storeyed Infantry barracks was originally built to house an Infantry regiment and could accommodate 1000 men. The twin-towered centrepiece stands forward from the front of the building, with verandas running between the towers. The Infantry barracks is presently occupied by the 1st Battalion The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The ground floor contains the headquarters, offices and administration, and the upper three floors have been converted into flats to house 240 men. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
