Scope and Content Nos 11 and 13 Woodhall Road, Colinton, Edinburgh Woodhall Road strikes south-west from Bridge Road towards the Pentlands Hills. It was built with first, Georgian, and then with Victorian and Edwardian villas, as Colinton gradually developed as an attractive and fashionable place in which to live. These large Victorian semi-detached villas, in leafy gardens behind high hedges, were built in 1877 by Robert Rowand Anderson. Designed as a single block with two half-timbered brick gables, they have deep eaves, both originally with wooden balconies. The Edinburgh architect, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson (1834-1921), was a pioneer of the 17th-century Scottish revival style. He came to live in Colinton in 1879, and designed some of the finest houses to be built in the village in the late Victorian era. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
