Scope and Content Former billiards room, Bella Vista, No 64 The Causeway, Duddingston Village, Edinburgh The Causeway, Duddingston's main street, is a narrow lane which runs from the gates of the church the length of the village. It has a number of 18th- and 19th-century houses, as well as the village's only public house, the 18th-century Sheep's Heid Inn. The billiards room, now used as an office, was built in 1875 as part of an extension to the house. The room is lined with pairs of pilasters, and has an 'egg and dart' cornice. The bay window looks out over the garden to the south. Bella Vista is an unusual house, built in 1801 on the hill on the north side of The Causeway. In 1875 a Victorian curiosity was attached as a 'billiards-house' to the east side, and an octagonal battlemented pavilion was built on the west side. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
